How Much Sleep Do You Actually Need?
How much sleep do you actually need? You may have heard various different answers. Many say 6-8 hours. Others say 9 hours, and there are people who also believe in getting more than 10 hours a night. What if the answer is not necessarily what you think it is?
In this video, Dr. Sergey Kochelayev talks about how sleep effects people differently and what you need to focus on when determining how many hours you need. Athletes, for an example, can operate of 5-6 hours a night. This differs for people who work a 9-5 job, have terrible diets, and are sitting in traffic for most of the day. These people need to get more sleep because their bodies need the recovery.
Another thing to consider is the how your sleep adds up. When you are lacking a consistent schedule, your body is always in a deficit as the week progresses. Many people think they can counteract this by getting taking one day to sleep extra; this however often leads people back to the same cycle of being in a deficit because they think they are caught up! Dr. Sergey advises on choosing schedule and sticking to it!
